SpeechVibe's release notes until version 2.1
This document contains all release notes from all versions ever shipped of SpeechVibe and details the discovered problems and their respective solutions over time. To know which version you actually have, right-click on SpeechVibe's icon in the system tray, and invoke the 'About SpeechVibe...' menu item. The version will appear in the top line from the dialog, for example: "SpeechVibe Application 1.0 demo version build 1.0.0.2610". ------------------------------------------------------- VERSION 2.1 BUILD 11483 : released on Friday, October 17th 2008 NEW FEATURES: (1) The keyboard localization is now taken into consideration while producing dictation content. The issue was previously documented as 2610:(3). (2) The issue 2610:(1) has also become unreproducible with version 8 of the SAPi engine. (3) Support for multiple monitors has been added in such a way that SpeechVibe will display the content correctly in these settings (when multiple monitors are in place). (4) Support for English engines that are not US based has also been added in such a way that SpeechVibe automatically detects which engine is inslalled and activates it without the need for users to interact through any GUI. (5) Further adjustements for Vista OS compliance were made. (6) A caching mechanism was added in order to make SpeechVibe faster when returning to a context that was already calculated in the same session. (7) GUI feedback through a progress bar was added in order for the user to become more aware of when SpeechVibe calculates a context of the fact that SpeechVibe is indeed working and provide some feedback on how much more time is expected for the calculations to complete. KNOWN ISSUES: None. ------------------------------------------------------- VERSION 2.0 BUILD 8450 : released on Monday, April 21st 2008 NEW FEATURES: (1) Reimplemented the dictation feature so that a superposed interface is not required anymore. (2) Preferences in SpeechVibe are now multi-dimensional (SpeechVibe Professional and up), allowing for a distinct preference to be stored and calculated for each context. (3) Hot-spots menu support is more flexible, allowing for the invoquation of a menu even in the event that another one is already open. (4) Hot-spots can now be invoked even in cases when the voice command is ambiguous, further allowing a disambiguity environment for the user to disambiguate. (5) The dictation environment allows for formatting dates, times, numbers and else. KNOWN ISSUES: All other known issues from build 3219 are still pending resolution. These are 2610:(1) and 2610:(3). ------------------------------------------------------- VERSION 1.5 BUILD 3962 : released on Monday, May 28th 2007 NEW FEATURES: (1) Added browser content support within Internet Explorer. RESOLVED ISSUES: (1) issue 2610:(4) is fixed. The issue was documented as following: "SpeechVibe uses translucent windows much. These type of windows consume a lot of memory. In some cases, a message stating that not enough memory is available to display the window with translucency may be shown. This problem will be addressed soon by cummulating many translucent windows into the same one so that memory usage is minimized. Nevertheless, the work-around of still being able to see the content without translucency is still available until then." KNOWN ISSUES: All other known issues from build 3219 are still pending resolution. These are 2610:(1) and 2610:(3). ------------------------------------------------------- VERSION 1.1.2 BUILD 3219 : released on Monday, April 2nd 2007 NEW FEATURES: (1) Added a notification manager that looks at SpeechVibe's web-site in order to display messages if necesary. RESOLVED ISSUES: (1) The registry of installed applications sometimes created invalid grammars because of duplicate application names (or partial) and ultimately brought SpeechVibe to a halt. SpeechVibe was modified so that consequences of such an occurence would be void. (2) SpeechVibe was made more defensive so that in the event of a grammar problem, the problem would not bring SpeechVibe to a complete halt, but only a temporary one until SpeechVibe detects a context switch. (3) The command "Insert text here" was not always enabled when it should. That is fixed now. KNOWN ISSUES: All other known issues from build 2962 are still pending resolution. These are 2610:(1), 2610:(3) and 2610:(4). ------------------------------------------------------- VERSION 1.1.1 BUILD 3068 : released on Thursday, March 22nd 2007 RESOLVED ISSUES: (1) The licensing dialog that opened at startup did not include a close mechanism in the event that the user doesn't enter a serial number after the trial period expiration. That issue is now resolved. (2) While resolving the scroll redrawing, there were some redraw problems still left pending. The scroll redraw now works as expected. KNOWN ISSUES: All other known issues from build 2962 are still pending resolution. These are 2610:(1), 2610:(3) and 2610:(4). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - VERSION 1.1 BUILD 2962 : released on Tuesday, February 27th 2007 NEW FEATURES: (1) SpeechVibe now monitors the computer's context and maintains a speech grammar for all the active menus and GUI items into dialogs so that you can automatically speak menus or buttons without any required configuration. (2) A 'Check for updates' menu item was added in SpeechVibe's contextual menu. (3) SpeechVibe was modified to achieve Windows Vista compatibility. RESOLVED ISSUES: Known issue 2610:(2) is resolved, the issue was documented as following: SpeechVibe has a drawing problem with the scrolls (like the scrolling favorites when you say 'Go to web-site') where it doesn't display PERFECTLY, but does display, a scroll item under some circumstances. Provided that it is still possible to read the item from the scroll, no work-around is required. Still, the problem is known and will be addressed as soon as possible. KNOWN ISSUES: All other known issues from build 2610 are still pending resolution. These are 2610:(1), 2610:(3) and 2610:(4). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - VERSION 1.0 BUILD 2610 : released on Tuesday, February 6th 2007 KNOWN ISSUES: (1) With some low-powered computers (between 1 GHz and 1.2 GHz), that are just over the minimal hardware requirements, dictation may recognize dictated content as command and control hypothesis. The other work-around than simply getting a more powerful computer, is to select the "Exclusive mode" in the Dictation preferences. That has for effect that when dictating, command and control is not-available unless dictation is paused by saying "Pause dictation". (2) SpeechVibe has a drawing problem with the scrolls (like the scrolling favorites when you say 'Go to web-site') where it doesn't display PERFECTLY, but does display, a scroll item under some circumstances. Provided that it is still possible to read the item from the scroll, no work-around is required. Still, the problem is known and will be addressed as soon as possible. (3) As it stands, SpeechVibe does not take into consideration the keyboard settings when generating content. For example, if a single quote is generated from a dictated sentence like "I'm happy to...", the single quote assumes to be generated from a US English keyboard setting. Any other setting for the keyboard may result in wrong characters being generated. (4) SpeechVibe uses translucent windows much. These type of windows consume a lot of memory. In some cases, a message stating that not enough memory is available to display the window with translucency may be shown. This problem will be addressed soon by cummulating many translucent windows into the same one so that memory usage is minimized. Nevertheless, the work-around of still being able to see the content without translucency is still available until then. ------------------------------------------------------- Last updated on Monday, April 21st 2008
